Accidents and Gratefulness

caraccident

When I look at this picture, I feel grateful and overwhelmed with God’s goodness.

Not grateful that Jonathan no longer has a car, or that it’s smashed beyond repair, or that we lost control on slippery roads and had quite the jarring ride before we ran into a tree.

No, but…

I’m grateful that instead of being seriously injured, we walked out with not one single scratch or cut. Miraculous. God’s angels were taking care of us! We are both alive and unharmed. SO thankful!

I’m grateful that the impact from the tree was in the exact spot that kept us the safest. It hit the door post, which was right between my door and the back of the car. If it would’ve impacted a foot over, it would’ve seriously injured me. Thank You Jesus!

I’m grateful that the windows broke in such a way that we didn’t have glass all over us.

I’m grateful that instead of a huge hospital bill, it was only a chiropractor adjustment treatment to help our sore backs and necks. Instead of hanging out together in a hospital room this afternoon, we sat at Jitters and drank mochas on our favorite red couch. 😀

I’m grateful that we weren’t halfway between here and Canada somewhere, and that our roadtrip was not underway yet. It would’ve been quite bad for our two (would’ve been) passengers in the backseat and a MESS to try to deal with an accident far from home. (Sad to miss dear Esta’s wedding though 😦 )

I’m grateful we were close enough to home that it worked out for our pastor to come out and give us a ride back — helped so much!!

I’m grateful we didn’t have cuts on our faces — it’s a small thing, but it would’ve pretty much ruined our engagement picture plans and threw alot of things off.

I’m grateful that it’s just a car to be replaced. You can get a new car, but people are irreplaceable.

I’m grateful for LIFE. Life is such a fragile, precious gift and I don’t want to take it for granted ever again.

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.

Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
    the Most High, who is my refuge—
 no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
    no plague come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways.
 On their hands they will bear you up,
    lest you strike your foot against a stone.

Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
    I will protect him, because he knows my name.
 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble;
    I will rescue him and honor him.”

[Selections from Psalm 91]

This Psalm is so, so precious to me, and especially now. Thank You Jesus!

  1. I am SOOO thankful you both were unharmed. This gives me the chills seeing the car like this. My kids are 21, 23, and 24, and they’ve been in their share of accidents, unfortunately, and when the car got totaled I couldn’t bring myself to go see it. Thankful to God for protecting them and thankful to God for protecting you and your sweetie. It’s just like you to be grateful in every small detail. You are a gem, sweet girl.
